This 6-week interior design course is perfect for creative teens ages 12 and up. Students will explore design styles, color theory, layout planning, and more. Each week builds on the last, guiding them step-by-step through the design process.
From Pinterest boards to real-world room planning, they'll bring ideas to life. The course ends with a complete bedroom design they’ll proudly present.
No prior experience needed—just imagination and a love for design!
Students will explore popular interior design styles, create a personalized Pinterest board, and begin identifying what makes a space feel like “them.” They'll also check out a design book from the library to share with the class next week. This week sets the foundation for personal expression and creative direction.
Students will learn how to measure a space and sketch it to scale. They'll begin drafting a layout of their own bedroom and start thinking about furniture placement and room flow.
This week focuses on color psychology, creating a cohesive color palette, and understanding the differences between paint and wallpaper. Students will begin selecting colors that match their personal vision.
Students will learn how lighting, bedding, art, window treatments, and accessories work together to create a complete space. They'll practice styling a surface and explore how small touches make a big impact.
This week emphasizes practical design—keeping room function in mind while staying true to personal style. Students will review furniture choices, declutter ideas, and finalize layout decisions.
Students will take a field trip (on their own time) to a furniture or home store (or explore virtually), gather final inspiration, and present their completed bedroom design boards to the class.
Bonus Class: Behind the Scenes of a Design Career (Pre-Recorded Zoom)
In this bonus recorded session, students will get an inside look at what it’s really like to work as an interior designer. Through a guided video presentation, they’ll explore how to turn a love for decorating into a real career.
Topics covered in the video include:
*What interior designers actually do (beyond picking paint colors) *How to work with clients—from first meeting to final reveal *How designers find inspiration, create mood boards, and source furniture *The basics of pricing a project and managing a budget *What it takes to start your own design business *Ways to share your work and build a brand (social media, websites, portfolios)
Just as enrolling your child in sports or music classes is a priority, consider signing them up for private coaching sessions to equip them with the skills to master their most valuable asset - their brain.
Personalized Support Builds Confidence: While the course gives structure and inspiration, 1:1 coaching gives your child a safe space to ask questions, talk through design decisions, and get guidance tailored to their ideas. This boosts their confidence and helps them feel seen and supported—especially if they’re new to design or unsure of their style.
Encourages Follow-Through and Accountability: Coaching calls provide a gentle layer of accountability, helping your child stay engaged and follow through on their weekly design tasks. It can be easy to lose momentum in a self-paced course—coaching keeps them motivated, organized, and excited to finish what they started.
Develops Communication and Presentation Skills: Through coaching, your child will learn how to explain their ideas, receive feedback, and present their design vision—skills that are incredibly valuable in both creative and professional settings. These calls help them feel proud of their voice and their work.
Mentorship That Inspires Growth: As both a designer and coach, I guide students not only in aesthetics but in mindset—helping them trust their creativity, think critically, and see their strengths. Coaching can be the spark that transforms this course from a fun activity into a true confidence-building journey.
All coaching sessions must be utilized within a 3-month period. I will provide you with a calendar link for prompt scheduling of the sessions.
For an additional $150, your child can join me for a very special behind-the-scenes design experience!
